Our History
NAAIA’s History
The National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) was founded by Jerald L. Tillman in 1997 with the goal of providing a platform for Black insurance professionals to connect, learn and grow. Tillman saw a need for greater representation in the industry, particularly in leadership positions, and decided to take action.
Today, we have over 2,500 members and 24 chapters across the United States, making us the largest and longest-serving association dedicated to Black insurance professionals.
NAAIA is committed to diversifying the insurance industry’s talent landscape and transforming the way we nurture, invite, develop and advance underrepresented talent in the industry.
