NAAIA Issues Statement Regarding Supreme Court’s Decision on Affirmative Action

Washington, DC – Today the National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) released its statement expressing disappointment in the recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings. NAAIA has reviewed the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision regarding the use of race-based affirmative action in college admissions, and we are disappointed in the outcome rendered last week. We believe this ruling will further widen the college accessibility gap for students of color, and thus diminish the opportunity for our industry’s workforce to reflect the growing racial demographics of its customer base. The Court’s rulings on affirmative action, student loan forgiveness and religious freedom, coupled with a rise in state-based legislation to dismantle progress in diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), hold implications that can disrupt and reverse progress in workplace efforts stewarded by business leaders, human resources managers, chief DEI officers and employee resource group leaders. NAAIA remains steadfast in our mission to diversify the insurance industry by introducing insurance and risk management as a career of choice for people of color, developing racially and ethnically diverse professionals and creating opportunities that accelerate our career advancement. As such, we are committed to working with our Partner network to be the source of racially and gender diverse talent through our annual conference, job postings site and career fairs, and will continue to explore unique and innovative pathways that meet the needs of our current and future members, Partners and the industry at-large. We call upon our corporate, educational and community partners to recommit to these actions as well. NAAIA welcomes insurance professionals at every level and career stage, from college students to C-suite executives – to join us in our mission and treasure our partnership with organizations who share our commitment to inclusive and equitable environments.

The National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) was organized to create a network among people of color and others employed in or affiliated with the insurance industry. The association currently has 1,900 members and 23 chapters, with others in development, throughout the nation and its members represent every sector of the industry. NAAIA’s focus is the professional development and personal empowerment of its members, and to serve as a gateway to diverse talent at every level of the industry. Visit to learn more.
