NAAIA Announces 2022 J.L. Tillman Scholarship Recipients

Washington, DC – The National African American Insurance Association (NAAIA) announced today the 2022 recipients of the J.L. Tillman Endowed Scholarship.

Established in 2013, the J.L. Tillman Endowed Scholarship is awarded to African American students to further their education in insurance, risk management, business, IT, actuarial science, finance or marketing. The scholarship is named in honor of NAAIA’s founder, Jerald L. Tillman, and supports NAAIA’s mission to introduce insurance as a career of choice for African Americans. Six students receive $5,000 each to support their educational goals.

“Investing in the next generation of leaders is critical for our industry,” said Omari Jahi Aarons, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. “Very much in the spirit of Mr. Tillman, our scholarship program helps students achieve their vocational goals by lessening the burden of higher education costs.”

“One commitment that NAAIA has made is to do what we can to diversify the insurance industry. What a great opportunity we have to introduce young people to the industry,” said Tillman. “Through scholarships, we encourage our young brothers and sisters to take a peek at one of the greatest industries in the world.”
